One hundred and twenty companies in the footwear industry, responsible for over 1 billion euros in exports and 10,000 jobs, signed the Portuguese Shoes Green Pact on February 24 at the Crystal Palace in Porto.

The companies have committed themselves “to work and contribute to the goals set by the United Nations and Europe of a zero-carbon planet”.

In a ceremony chaired by the European Commissioner for the Environment, Virginijus Sinkevicius, and also attended by the Minister of Environment and Climate Action, Duarte Cordeiro, the Secretary of State for the Economy, Pedro Cilinio, and the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Polido Pires, the signatory companies of the ‘Portuguese Shoes Green Pact’ have committed themselves “to work and contribute to the goals set by the United Nations and Europe of a planet with zero carbon emissions in 2050 and a reduction by half in 2030”.

Fernando Sampaio, CEO of Mazoni, welcomes this initiative, stating that “it comes to meet the commitment to sustainability that the Portuguese footwear has been doing in recent years. At Mazoni we recognize the importance of more sustainable fashion that contributes to reducing the ecological footprint. We work towards that in our daily activities: in the materials we use to make the shoes; in the photovoltaic panels in our factory; or even in the small things, like LED lighting or recycling paper and plastic“.

Mazoni is currently undergoing the ISO 14001 – Environmental Management System certification process, which will soon be completed.
